About the Book
Fine, I’ll Do It Myself is a forthcoming memoir by Paulette Huber and Jennifer Orr.
Born during the war to a Vietnamese mother and Black American father, Paulette was evacuated from Saigon during Operation Babylift and brought to America as a young child. Her family struggled to adapt as they made their way in a new country. Her father died when she was young. Her mother unraveled. By sixteen, she was kicked out with nowhere to go.
She survived on willpower and instinct, teaching herself what she needed to know without the benefit of a formal education. Along the way she made choices, some good, some terrible, and learned from every one of them. Some turns were beyond her control. Others became turning points she never imagined possible. Over time, she built a life from homelessness and poverty to leadership in the tech world.
Told with dry humor, sharp honesty, and lived-in detail, this memoir is not just about where she’s been. It’s about owning every part of that journey and being brave enough to tell the story now without apology.
Some readers may see themselves in this story, and we hope it helps them feel less alone. Others may simply enjoy the journey, and that matters just as much.
